Peer Case Managers are individuals who have experienced mental illness themselves and are well grounded in their own recovery and model competency in ongoing coping and resiliency skills. The PORCH Peer Case Managers help clients identify goals that promote recovery and assist them in identifying services and activities to reach these goals. Assist Program participants to achieve successful independent living, obtaining/maintaining housing, and pursuing vocational/educational goals. Assist Program participants in developing effective natural supports and in obtaining, maintaining, and/or using appropriate mental health, medical and community resources. Provide outreach, peer counseling, independent living skills training, and assist with crisis intervention and stabilization. All services are provided under the supervision of a Mental Health Professional.
To be employed as a Peer Case Manager a person must: 1. Be or commit to becoming Certified as a Peer Counselor by the State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery within one year of employment, which involves completing specialized training approved by the State of WA and passing a written and oral State exam. The training and exam are free. This requires: Self-identifying as a person who is receiving or has received mental health services and demonstrating that they have been well grounded in their own mental health recovery for at least one year. 2. Pass a WA State criminal background check (no recent serious convictions). 3. Be eligible to become a WA State Agency Affiliated Counselor after being hired. In addition, this position also requires the following knowledge and skills: knowledge of mental disorders and substance abuse issues, effective counseling skills, ability to assess and teach independent living skills, good interpersonal communication skills, and good computer-user skills. Prefer knowledge of Pierce County public mental health system, community resources, and recovery-based and trauma-informed models of care. Prefer having reliable personal auto, driver's license, good driving record, and personal auto insurance. Prefer AA degree in social services related field and 1 year experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
